I received my copy several days ago. What a great read. My wife (who is not a racing fan in the least) and I are ready to drop everything and head out to inspect some of the places first hand. I can’t believe that she is as hooked as I am.

Just received my copy and am devouring it! That cover shot has special meaning for me…I was a Wichita Region SCCA corner worker in the late ’60’s and early ’70’s at Lake Afton and at Hutchinson (which was originally a Naval Air Station. I believe the barracks were still standing back in the late ’60’s). I can vividly recall standing out in the rain on the inside corner as cars tried to find a dry line through it as they entered the back straight.
Lake Afton was a real challenge for drivers and corner workers alike. We always crewed the last corner before the front straight and it was never dull. I’ll never forget getting hosed down with a fire extinguisher as we pulled a driver to safety. But there were the lighter moments: We always set a formal table at lunch break…complete with white table cloth, silver and champagne bucket (filled with ginger ale)!
Thanks for the memories!

Pete, you have really outdone yourself. I have had the book about a week and already been thru it twice. What memories you have written about. It really brings me back to the days when I started racing in the late sixties and at the tracks around the Midwest. What great pictures and copy about the past. Great Book. It will be a long treasure on our library shelves. Thanks, Bob Eddy (A 41 Year SCCA Member)

My copy arrived in today’s mail. It looked quite good and covered the tracks in my part of the world (San Franciso) quite well. My one suggestion would be to change the table of contents to provide a listing for each track and its page number. A small thing, but would make things easier.

I got my copy of Ghost Tracks and must say it is simply stunning! You have some rare and wonderful pictures and well written history there. I am very interested in various ghost tracks around the midwest, I feel fortunate to have driven on both Lake Garnett and Greenwood Roadway in the past couple of years. I also walked the full length of Meadowdale last fall. Anyway, great job on a masterful book. I look forward to reading it cover to cover.

I got my book on Friday, raced at Hallett on Sunday, my wife read the book Sunday morning, she remembered all the tracks we ran on in the 60’s & 70’s.
I ran my first SCCA school at War Bonnet in 1968, then on to MAR, Green Valley, Ponca City, Lake Afton, Lake Garnett and others. Bad as it seems, many of the tracks we ran still exist.

I received my copy of the book last week and I have enjoyed reading about a different track… each night. One of the charms of this book is you can be engrossed in a particular subject and when done with that one you can put the book down only to start over with a new one the next night. The pictures alone are worth the price of admission and the bits of history are icing on the cake. I was particularly happy to find that Mr. Hylton includes personal experiences as well as inside and information about and from people and events relating to the venues.

I bought the book for my Dad, was relieved to get it so soon, and read it over the weekend.. Great stories. I’ve always wanted to do the same with the ski areas that all popped up in the 50’s and 60’s and are now gone.. Now I know how to do it..
Adding to the list of new and old ghost tracks in the Colorado region; Steamboat Springs road course (new and Old courses), Second Creek east of Denver (recently closed), Buckley Airfield, Mead north of Denver (recently closed), Estes Park, Lookout mountain hillclimb, Salida street course, Aspen ( and the realated story about Gov. Big Ed Thompson outlawing the street courses in CO. when he was stuck inside the track at his hotel).
Mr. Hylton does a great job, but oh man he has a bunch more to research and find.. Great book.. Would really like to see all the pictures and research.

Yes I received my Ghost Tracks book. One word TERRIFIC! I got to meet Pete a couple of years ago at the SCCA convention in Kansas City. What a great person to be around. You did a great job, as always, on your Ghost Tracks book. Keep up the good work. How about another book in the future. Thanks Bob Newberg

I have just finished a quick read and will read it a few more times before I think I have covered it. I am glad to see all this information in a book and I can now throw out the articles and add this to my book shelf. I look forward to future books as well.
